Progetto vincitore della XII edizione dell’Italian Council
Il progetto di Farid Rahimi AFGHANISTAN unirà le tante voci e le tante immagini di un viaggio a caccia di “testimonianze” afgane in giro per il mondo. È un lungo viaggio per tappe: copre grandi distanze non solo fisiche ma anche interiori, emotive. Parte dall’esigenza dell’artista (nato in Svizzera, ma residente e cresciuto in Italia) di confrontarsi con un’identità frammentata tra la sua appartenenza ad un paese che non ha mai visitato – l’Afghanistan – e la dislocazione dei suoi legami familiari in luoghi lontani dall’Italia e distanti tra loro.
Una riflessione che ha origine dal caso biografico e particolare dell’artista, per indagare il concetto universale di diaspora, attraverso interviste, testimonianze e ricerche condotte in più di tre mesi di viaggi e di riprese, che restituiranno la video installazione conclusiva dell’opera AFGHANISTAN realizzata grazie al supporto dell’Italian Council.

Farid Rahimi’s project AFGHANISTAN will bring together the many voices and images from a journey in search of “testimonies” from Afghanistan around the world. It is a long journey in stages: it covers great distances, not only physical but also interior and emotional. It starts from the artist’s need (born in Switzerland, but living and raised in Italy) to confront a fragmented identity between his belonging to a country he has never visited – Afghanistan – and the dislocation of his family ties in places far from Italy and distant from each other.
A reflection that originates from the biographical and particular case of the artist, in order to investigate the universal concept of diaspora, through interviews, testimonies and research conducted in more than three months of travelling and filming, which will give back the final video installation of the work AFGHANISTAN realised thanks to the support of the Italian Council.
